Tracking and statuses
How often we check
Check frequency by status and plan, manual refresh limits, when tracking stops, and what you see when a courier's tracking is down.
Updated
We check every new shipment with its courier as soon as it is added, then again on a schedule that follows the parcel: often when something is about to happen, less often while it is simply on its way, and not at all once it has arrived. Paid plans check more often than Free.
The schedule
| Status | Free (standard) | Starter and Growth (adaptive) | Pro and Enterprise (priority) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Just added | At once | At once | At once |
| Booked, not picked up | Every 12 hours, then daily after day 14; stops at day 30 | Every 6 hours for the first 3 days, then every 12 hours, then daily after day 14; stops at day 30 | As adaptive |
| In transit and moving | Every 12 hours | Every 6 hours | Every 4 hours |
| In transit with no new scan for 3 days or more | Every 12 hours, daily after day 7; stops at day 45 | Every 12 hours, daily after day 7; stops at day 45 | As adaptive |
| Out for delivery | Every 12 hours | Every 2 hours, 7:00 AM–10:00 PM IST, for the first day; then every 6 hours | Every 90 minutes, 7:00 AM–10:00 PM IST, for the first day; then every 6 hours |
| Delivery attempt failed | Every 12 hours | Every 4 hours for 72 hours, then every 12 hours | Every 3 hours for 72 hours, then every 12 hours |
| Returning to sender | Every 12 hours | Every 12 hours | Every 12 hours |
| Delivered, returned, cancelled or not found | Stops | Stops | Stops |
Each shipment shows when it was last checked, such as “Checked 12 min ago”, and its detail adds when the next check is due: “next around 2:40 PM”. If another workspace tracks the same number, we still check it only once, and each workspace sees the result.
When tracking stops
A banner on the shipment says why, and how to start again where that makes sense:
- “Delivered: tracking finished”.
- “No updates for 45 days: we stopped checking.” with “Resume tracking”.
- “Not picked up for 30 days: we stopped checking.” with “Resume”.
- “Not found: we stopped checking.” with “Check again” (see Exceptions explained).
Archived shipments aren't checked either. Restore one and it is checked again, unless its journey had already ended.
Checking by hand
“Refresh” on a shipment checks it with the courier now. Each plan has a daily number of manual refreshes, counted from midnight IST:
| Plan | Refreshes per day |
|---|---|
| Free | 10 |
| Starter | 100 |
| Growth | 500 |
| Pro | 2,000 |
| Enterprise | As agreed |
- A shipment can be refreshed once every 10 minutes: “Checked 2 min ago. You can refresh again in 8 min.”
- From Growth upwards you can refresh up to 50 selected shipments at once; each one counts towards the daily number.
- If the courier isn't responding, you see “Delhivery isn't responding right now. We'll retry automatically.” (with the courier named), and the refresh isn't used up.
When a courier's tracking is down
Courier websites sometimes slow down or stop answering. When that happens to a courier you have active shipments with, a banner appears above your shipments, for example “Delhivery updates are delayed since 10:40 AM IST. We'll keep trying; the last good status is shown.” We keep showing the last good status rather than guessing, and affected shipments get a “Delayed updates” label. When the courier recovers, the banner says so (“Delhivery is back to normal (11:55 AM)”) and clears 30 minutes later.
