TrackParcel has confirmed that Iceland Post's tracker answers lookups, but has not yet checked a delivered shipment end to end. The status wording below comes from the carrier's own published statuses.
In the email the seller or the post sends the recipient, and in the app or My account under Shipments. On a notification of an international shipment it is printed at the top right, under the barcode. The post calls it a 13-character code; TrackParcel passes on any 8 to 30 letters and digits left once a pasted label and separators are removed.
Pósturinn holds nothing under the number yet. Its help text says a number that does not show up belongs to a shipment that has not reached Iceland, so it is not yet in Pósturinn's possession. It points to its app or My account, which show the status once the recipient's kennitala is registered.
When the shipment's status code is Delivered; for a missing code, or one the post's page does not know, the wording decides instead. Out for home delivery appears as Out for Delivery. Available for pickup, Unsuccessful home delivery and Returned to sender never count as delivered.
The post's page lists only steps tagged historic as history; current and future steps feed its progress bar. TrackParcel does the same, so a planned step never appears as a scan before it happens. A shipment registered but not yet scanned shows its status alone.
TrackParcel reads each stamp in the zone it carries, Z or an offset. A stamp without one is read as Reykjavik time, which is UTC all year. On TrackParcel each timed step then appears converted to IST, with the IST label, while the post's own page keeps the stamp's own clock.
Pósturinn describes its role as distribution, communications and logistics services for companies and individuals, and its website names the organisation Íslandspóstur. TrackParcel follows the public Track your shipment page on posturinn.is, not the app or My account, which the post calls the easiest way to follow shipments registered to your kennitala.
No real parcel from this post has yet been read by TrackParcel. Only the answer for an unknown number has been seen live.
Pósturinn's page has its own message for a number it rejects, “We don’t recognise this tracking number”, with a reminder that it usually has 13 characters. For a number ending IS after two letters and nine digits, Auto-Detect lists Iceland Post below India Post. For any other shape, including the longer references the page allows, choose Iceland Post from the courier list yourself.
TrackParcel first strips a pasted label, brackets, spaces and slash or hyphen separators, and puts letters in capitals. What remains goes to Pósturinn only when it is 8 to 30 letters and digits; anything shorter, or longer up to 50 characters, stops at TrackParcel as not found. Two numbers joined by a comma would travel as one string, so look up each parcel on its own.
TrackParcel loads the shipment record that posturinn.is itself reads for Track your shipment, asking for English. For a status code the post's page knows, it shows the post's status message, or its English label when no message is given; a Delivered or Out for home delivery code shows as Delivered or Out for Delivery whatever the message says. It also shows the weight when one is set, and each historic step with its place name and description.
The recipient, the sender, the customs declaration number and details, and street addresses are never read. The post does not document the order of its steps, so TrackParcel sorts them newest first by their stamps.
For an unknown number Pósturinn sends an empty answer, which its page words as “We can’t find this tracking number”; TrackParcel reports it as not found. A maintenance or block page, a refusal or a server error makes TrackParcel say Iceland Post is temporarily unavailable instead.
If a number fits several parcels at once, the post's page displays nothing; TrackParcel answers not found and asks for the single parcel's own number. No real reply of that kind has been seen yet.
After a notice that a shipment waits at a post office, the post recommends collecting it in the next 10 business days, after which storage fees apply; in a customs warehouse they start after 7 days. Someone else can collect it with your notification slip or authorisation and their own ID, or you can ask for home delivery or forwarding to a Póstbox.
Customs clearance requests, reappraisals of customs fees and claims for lost or damaged shipments go through Pósturinn, not TrackParcel. Its Contact page offers a message form for an inquiry or complaint, with a tracking number field to fill only if needed, and an online chat with Customer Service from 09:30 on weekdays. Keep the tracking number and any invoice to hand.

Iceland Post's own status wording, what it means, and the badge TrackParcel's result shows for it.
These are the English labels the post's tracking page gives its status codes. When a record carries the post's own status message, TrackParcel shows that message instead of the label, except for the Delivered and Out for home delivery codes; no real parcel has yet been read.
Only above a certain value: Pósturinn says an item worth more than 40,000 ISK needs an invoice or receipt, sent through its customs clearance request, the app or My account. Below that, with all shipment information on the package, no documents are needed.
Up to a threshold. Pósturinn says a gift worth less than 13,500 ISK according to its invoice is delivered free of charge and without a handling fee. Above that, import duties are due on the amount over the threshold, and a handling fee is added.
Yes. Pósturinn says its app and My account show shipments on their way to you, with their tracking numbers and status, and a post office can give information about your shipments when you show valid ID.
