Austrian Post's help shows two sample forms: a 22-digit run, and two letters, nine digits and a country code. The number is on your posting receipt, or on the certificate of posting for registered mail. Auto-Detect offers Austrian Post only for numbers ending in AT, ranked after India Post, so pick Austrian Post yourself.
Not yet. It means the sender has printed the shipping label but has not handed the item over. The status usually lasts only a few business days; if it does not change, contact the sender. Details a retailer sends that differ from Austrian Post's tracking are likewise a question for that company.
Item in delivery: Austrian Post expects the item today, and the postcode shown belongs to the last transport station. Item in distribution means the item is passing through stations in Austria, already in the country if it came from abroad. Its postcode is that of the latest logistics centre.
From the day after the notice until the third following Monday, though online retailers may set a shorter storage of 5 business days. The delivery person writes the last pick-up day on the yellow notification left in your postbox.
Austrian Post, Österreichische Post in German, says its track and trace service covers all parcels and Post Express items, and both kinds of registered letter can be tracked by item number. For a letter going abroad it points to the simple registered mail add-on, tracked from posting in Austria to delivery in the destination country. TrackParcel shows the item history; forwarding an item or setting up a release authorisation needs a Post account on post.at.
Austrian Post prints the item number on the posting receipt, and for registered mail on the certificate of posting or receipt. Its help shows two sample forms, one a 22-digit run of figures and the other two letters, nine digits and a two-letter country code.
Auto-Detect offers Austrian Post only for a number ending in AT and lists India Post above it, so choose Austrian Post yourself, especially for an all-digit number. TrackParcel strips a pasted label such as AWB:, brackets and inner spaces or hyphens from either form before the lookup, and has no length check of its own for Austrian Post.
TrackParcel reads the item history behind Austrian Post's English track and trace page and shows each event's English text, falling back to the German text when an event has none. An event's place combines the postcode, the place name and a country code, and its short status code appears as the remark.
The result also shows the weight in kilograms and any expected delivery date. Times are shown as written in the carrier's own stamps, without conversion, and events run newest first. Before calling an item Delivered, TrackParcel rules out returns and failed attempts, then checks the newest event's English and German wording and the shipment's German status code, such as ZUGESTELLT.
For a number TrackParcel has sent, the result says not found when Austrian Post returns no item, or an item without a single event. If the reply carries an error message instead, TrackParcel reports Austrian Post as temporarily unavailable rather than calling the number unknown. A number showing only the sender's electronic order information is known but not yet posted, so ask the sender.
For parcels going abroad, “Item handed over to subcontractor” marks the handover to the delivery partner in the destination country. Austrian Post's help on the item forwarded to country of destination status adds that, for an international destination, the next update comes from the carrier in that country.
Items holding goods from a non-EU country must be registered with the Austrian customs authorities before delivery, and the inspection might take a few days. Austrian Post needs a purchase order and proof of payment for the declaration, and does not accept documents in other scripts, such as Chinese or Cyrillic, or pro forma invoices.
Only the sender can authorise an inquiry into a missing item, and for international items the sender or the international carrier starts it. Report damage at an Austrian Post service location or online through your Austrian Post account, and keep the item, its contents and the original packaging until you hear back. For anything else, Austrian Post's contact page offers a written contact form.

It was probably sent as simple registered mail. With registered mail both posting and delivery are confirmed and the recipient signs; simple registered mail is confirmed at posting and goes straight into the letterbox with a scan event and no signature.
Import charges are collected on delivery after the customs declaration, starting with import turnover tax. If the online shop already charged Austrian VAT at purchase, Austrian Post says no import turnover tax or import fee is charged at import, as the retailer pays that tax.
Austrian Post says RSa letters and items with the Deliver to addressee only service can be picked up only by the recipient in person. An RSb letter can be collected by a substitute recipient who brings the deposit slip or notification and ID.
